Viola..........

It's highly likely the plants you are describing in your query are not roses. All roses have both the male and female reproductive anatomy and technically can serve as either the seed or the pollen parent. Not all roses are fertile and some roses are better seed parents than pollen parents while others are better pollen parents than seed parents, but that is due to the rose itself. Seeds for roses can be found in rose hips which are the "fruit" of the plant. Although there are a variety of shapes and sizes of various rose hips, I cannot recall any that are shaped like a miniature pine cone. They more often resemble apples which are in the same horticultural family as roses.

What a great answer to someone who is obviously not as familiar with roses and plants as most visitors to this site. How nice that helpmefind has such helpful, patient and kind folks to answer questions from visitors. Wonderful!

Jeff.......

Thank you. Please feel free to jump in and answer any questions like this yourself. HMF is for the whole rose community. It's a tool for both the person who is planting their first rose as well as those with more experience. I think it's wonderful when I see other site users helping to answer questions, too.

Smiles,
Lyn

Lyn,

Trust me -- I do reply when I think I have something to offer. This site is nothing without participation and sharing experiences.

Well... we wouldn't go so far as to say "...the site is nothing ...". After all, in addition to user participation, HMF contains information from hundreds of references.
