Alba Odorata is a vigorous growing rose, with very rich and beautiful foliage. Its fragrant flowers are cream-colored, and, when in bud, are very beautiful. It has stood the last three winter uninjured in our grounds without protection, and it is a very beautiful and desireable variety. It is classed by Rivers as a Microphylla, but it so little resembles that rose, and is so decidedly Macartney in its character, that we place it with the latter.
Book  (1846)  Page(s) 213.

[In the section on Rosa microphylla, a synonyms of Rosa roxburghii:] From Italian seed we have Alba Odorata, a vigorous-growing variety, partaking as much of the Macartney Rose in its habit as of Rosa microphylla: in fact, it is a complete hybrid. This is a good evergreen rose, producing an abundance of pale sulphur, or rather cream-coloured flowers: they are sweet-scented, but do no in general open freely.

Alba Odorata or the double White Microphylla grows very luxuriantly, frequently making shoots eight or ten feet long in one season; and in warm soils, where the season extends from March to December, they will no doubt grow twenty feet. The flowers are very large and double, of a yellowish-white, very fragrant, and look beautiful among the dark green foliage.
