Alec's Red is one of my favorite red roses. It has good form and great fragrance. The blooms can be a little more pink than I would like at certain points in the growing season but it is still red. I have grown mine on a south facing wall for 5 years now. It is grown on its own roots and has survived the zone 5a winters with little trouble. There is some dieback but not much. Each spring it puts forth very strong growth and is one of the earliest large flowered roses I grow to bloom. I don't spray this rose as it is grown with edible strawberries as a ground cover. Because of this, it does get some blackspot but new growth always hides this. Never had powdery mildew on this rose. A beautiful rose that is always in bloom - even in the heat. Deserves a place in most gardens.
