Origin:
Bred by De Grille (France, before 1845).
Introduced in France by Jean-Pierre Vibert in 1845 as 'De la Grifferaie'.
Introduced in Australia by Giles and Son in 1881 as 'De la Grifferaie'.
Class:
Hybrid Multiflora.  
Bloom:
Deep pink.  Medium, very double, cluster-flowered bloom form.  
Habit:
Climbing.  
Height of 8' 2" (250 cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  
Ploidy:
Tetraploid
Notes:
Exact parentage is unknown, but was always described with the other early Hybrid Multifloras that were derived from Rosa x multiflora 'Carnea.'
The color can edge into the lavender range. This rose tolerates alkaline conditions better than many of the Multiflora descendants. We find it often in California, as it was used as rootstock. Lucky us! If it were remontant, it'd be a "million-seller." J. Jennings
