H.R. Darlington, Crimson Roses.
Of the Hybrid Polyanthas I have grown I put Donald Prior as easily best and most effective as a bedding Rose. Karen Poulsen is no doubt brighter in colour and makes a wonderful show when at its best, but the large sprays go over and one has to wait for the next batch; moreover, the plants are not so reliable and require more frequent renewal than Donald Prior, which continually pushes up fresh sprays from behind those that have flowered. These should be constantly removed, and if this is done the bed will continue effective throughout the season. It also has fragrance and the foliage is good.

R.Marion Hatton.  New Roses in America.
Donald Prior looks like a good red Polyantha, although present red Polyantha interest seems to centre in the Poulsons.
The flowers of the Prior Rose are fragrant, the colour a velvety blood red, and I liked the hybrid tea-like foliage of the plant.
