Les Jardins à l’Exposition coloniale de Paris .... Il est vrai que ces petits rosiers multiflores à floraison continue, ont fait, ces dernières années, de grands progrès. « Orange King », qui brûle au soleil et aussi « Golden Salmon » remplacés par « Paul Crampel » et surtout « Gloria Mundi », qui sont d’un écarlate orangé éblouissant. Dans la cour intérieure du palais du Maroc, les grands bassins, par semés de Cyprès, et encadrés de pergolas où grimpent des rosiers sarmenteux, sont entièrement bordés de ces rosiers polyantha, appartenant à toutes les meilleures variétés, où se distinguent encore « Verdun » et « Eblouissant », d’un rouge sombre. Mais une variété, peu connue chez nous, qui triomphe et que l’on trouve par milliers un peu partout dans l’Exposition est « Joseph Guy ». C’est pour nous une révélation, car elle produit un effet extraordinaire en raison de l’extrême profusion de ses fleurs, semi-doubles, d’un beau rouge carminé, et plus grandes que celles des autres polyanthas.

Polyantha Roses
Polyanthas are, perhaps the most truly everblooming of all Roses, being scarcely ever out of flower during the whole growing season... They are especially valuable for massing, edging, and to some extent for mingling with other flowers.
Eblouissant. (E. Turbat & Co., 1918.) Glowing, dark red flowers of medium size, quilled like little cactus dahlias, and shaded heavily with velvety crimson. Large, compact trusses, borne on dwarf but robust plants, which bloom constantly.
Dwarfer than most Polyanthas, and with flowers that resemble the old China, Cramoisi Superieur. Gets better with age, and is one of the finest Polyantha Roses. $1 each. See illustration opposite page 37.

Éblouissant (1918) (Polyantha nain). Fl. rouge foncé velouté brillant sans être trop foncée, de bonne grandeur, pl. Très remontant. Ce rosier est, sans contredit, le plus beau polyantha rouge foncé.

p54. Eblouissant (E. Turbat & Co., 1918): nearly double flowers, with narrow petals arranged somewhat in the fashion of tiny cactus dahlias, deep blackish-scarlet with a velvety sheen. The plants need to become established before they are good, and the foliage is somewhat subject to disease.

'Ideal' (J.Spek, 1920): small, dark, velvety, crimson flowers, borne in tremendous compact clusters. It is darker than 'Miss Edith Cavell' (Meiderwyk, 1917), which it closely resembles in other respects, and it blackens with age. Very different from Eblouissant.
