I've had this rose in my Zone 6b garden since May 2012. It started out as one of the slowest growing roses in my garden and has now become one of the most vigorous. It hasn't put out any buds yet this year, but last year it would have been impressive if the rabbits hadn't kept biting the flowers off it.

I think it must be pretty cold hardy, because it actually grew new canes over the winter in spite of being buried under a five-foot snow drift.

The soil pH of my garden is about 5.5, so I wonder if Evelyn does better in acidic soil? I've heard this rose referred to as a slow-grower and not very vigorous, but I've found it to be just the opposite. It seems to really like our hot southern New England summers!

I planted an own-root Evelyn from Chamblee's in May of this year. I live in CT, Zone 6b, and this rose has become a monster in my garden! It was 10'' by 10'' when I planted it in May and as of late August it's three feet tall and wide. Of all the roses in my garden this one hasn't stopped growing. It hasn't done a true flush yet but produces one big flower every three weeks. Not bad for its first year!

I have grown 11 Evelyn roses for several years in Temecula, California. We have long hot dry summers. She grows 7-8' on an arch and also bushy fountain growth 4-5'. Very Fragrant! Very long strong stems and she repeats very well. Very disease free. I grow around a thousand roses; about 275 different varieties and Evelyn is in my top 5 favorites. Her sprays of 5-7 roses with the center bud 3/4 open and the rest in varying degrees of openness is my favorite cutting/bouquet rose.
