Book (1978) Page(s) 109. 'Fragrant Cloud' Medium — Red Remontant P9 H2 *** The name is translated from its original German name, Duftwolke' . The French call it `Nuage Parfume . It was raised by Mathias Tantau from Seedling x 'Prima Ballerina', and introduced in 1963. For some years it was the most popular rose in Britain according to the number sold, and that must show how fragrance is esteemed, because the colour is not remarkable. It starts scarlet, but no sooner is it open than the clouds of dullness overshadow it, and it ends its life with a touch of purple far from royal. If you wonder why it was so popular, well so do I. Its moments of youthful glory were apparently sufficient to redeem it.
