'Laure Davoust' (1843). A very old rambler which has survived for us to enjoy. It has lilac-pink small flowers which are double, open flat and are quartered with a green pointel in the centre. Prolific but non-recurrent. It is sweetly scented and will reach 5 metres.

My wife and I are just back from a two-weeks' search for the old roses in the California Mother Lode country.
.... we were led to the abandoned site of the former home, destroyed decades ago by fire...... and trailing through the thick carpet of pine needles that covered the ground, a pink trailing rose with double blooms about the size of a quarter, and with sinuous branches twenty feet long. All these roses had been growing here more than seventy-five years ago, had been left to themselves for many generations, and yet they freely, boldly, cheerfully bloom every year!

Laure Davoust  Laffay 1834.  Classed by the old writers as a Multiflora but evidently a different plant from what we understand by that term today, because it is notoriously liable to be damaged by frost. It bears clusters of perfectly formed, bright carmine-pink flowers, varying to white and flesh-colour.

Laure Davoust  Strolling in an old Hertfordshire garden last summer, I was arrested by a delightful scent coming from a rampant climber which was covering part of a pergola near by. The blossoms, of a soft blush pink colour, tinged with lilac, hung in big bunches from the roof of the pergola. They were very pretty, wonderfully round and double, like little fairy balls made of tiny Rose petals; but to me their chief charm lay in the delicious old-world perfume they shed so generously around them

A l’Ecole d’horticulture de l’Etat, à Gand, tous les montants des contre-espaliers sont garnis de Rosiers sarmenteux qui produisent un très bon effet et enlèvent aux charpentes en fer beaucoup de leur raideur. M. Burvenich père, qui a publié ce renseignement en 1891 dans le Bulletin d’arboriculture, de floriculture et de culture potagère, à propos de la Rose Félicité-Perpétue signalait comme Rosiers sarmenteux recommandables : Belle de Baltimore, Bijou de Lyon, William’s Evergrem, Bijou des prairies, Eva Corinne, Laure Bavoust, Madame Sancy de Parabère, de la Grifferaie et Ornement des Bosquets.
