Jayne Austin's fragrance is strong not mild as stated in the 'description'. Every time I buried my nose inside this rose, I can detect a strong licorice smell (not my favorite smell). Some people described this smell as tea - but in my opinion, the smell is not as pleasant as compare to Graham Thomas or Teasing Georgia. I guess it's a matter of taste. The blooms are smaller than Evelyn and the leaves are thick, light green colour. Here in Australia, it wants to become a climber.

For me this is one of the better Austin roses. I planted three of them close together in the rich soil in my vegetable garden in Holland. They grow over 6 feet high and the branches stay erect. There is some blackspot, but new growth is vigorous enough to keep up. I object to calling this a yellow rose, because it's really apricot (or peach), starting with some orange in the center, but fading rather quickly in the sun. (For real yellow choose for example Graham Thomas or The Pilgrim.) The flowers have an absolutely delicious scent. Austin calls it tearose scent, but it is different from (and stronger than) Graham Thomas, its parent. In my experience all Austins rose have a more or less different scent. I also like the fact that te flowers come in small clusters. If they're too tightly packed, it spolis the overall appearence. Recommended!

This rose does very well in my yard in zone 9 in Florida. I have not found a place for it in the ground yet and have it in a large pot. Still, it has doubled in size since March and blooms every few weeks. The blooms are very elegant and have an enchanting fragrance.
