I have Henry Kelsey and John Cabot in my garden (I have well over 30 plants in my garden). Since they are really robust for cold climates (i'm from Montreal) I usually let them fend for themselves... If some canes seem to be damaged you can prune them back. Some say that with time, you should cut down some of your older canes to invigour the plant. In the end, this is a carefree plant, if it's seems to be doing alright, just let it be....

Just cut the whole thing off if it's doing bad. It will grow back as good as new. I've done this before. Beleive me, it works!

Little holes or missing pieces of leaves are usually made by an insect bitting or a worm eating the foliage. Any insecticide for roses will solve your problem.

I recently purchased my first red medium John Cabot Explorer rose bush. As soon as i brought it home I transplanted it into a larger urn since my front yard doesn't have good soil for it to grow in. I filled half of the urn with rich new soil and tried without breaking the roots to lay the roots out flat as in my gardening book and then fill the urn with the new soil(that apparently is suppose to have a good fertilizer and plant food in it.) well, my question is why are the lower leaves turning yellow? did i do something wrong or is that suppose to happen?I live in central Newfoundland ,Canada which is suppose to be the right zone for the rose. i have taken the bush inside on a couple nights when there has been a frost warning even though it was june. all my other bulbs an schrubs are doing excellent but this baby has got me concerned help! can someone email me with instructions on how i can save my john cabot rose bush please.Thank- You.

Just to let you know (sorry I couldn't email you - there didn't seem to be a way), but I live here in St. John's, Newfoundland. I have my John Cabot planted in the worst soil impaginable, clay, clay, clay! It's doing great. these are pretty hardy, so I think you can do just about whatever you like to it as long as you DON"T EAT IT!

Don't fuss so much, just let it be!

None! Prune the dead canes in spring and other than this it should be fine.
