Violacea, La Belle Sultane (Before 1824)
Dark rosy red with some black hues around a center filled with golden stamens. The rose is semidouble, blooming in clusters of three with small, light green foliage. The overall effect is reminiscent of glass ornaments on a Christmas tree.

Gallica Violacea Single, 2 1/2 in., crimson damask, fading purple; anthers bold, pistil only just protruding. Pedicel very smooth, dark glands and hip. Calyx just exceeding bud, much winged, often twelve. Wood red, thorns very few and small; densely glanded. Leaves small, leaflets upfolded, down-hanging. Few very small thorns on petiole. Growth moderate.
