Laurent Carle (Garden)  Still one of the worthy reds for gardens, on account of the full damask fragrance, which was once the rose's great charm. It is inclined to grow low and branching, but is free blooming. Velvety carmine.  Fragrant. Habit 3. (HT). The climbing sport is a proven success.

….something of a disaster that such fragrant and useful garden sorts as Laurent Carle and …should be so slowly but surely giving way to newer roses.

p93-2   Harry Hazlewood.  Rose Development 1900-1839
There is no improvement in fragrance for no rose in the later list is more richly perfumed than Chateau de Clos Vougeot, Etoile de Hollande, Hoosier Beauty or Laurent Carle.

D. McLennan, Vic:   Rose Thoughts from Mooroopna.
Laurent Carle is another that stands up to the heat, and though the carmine colour is not to my taste, it is a very satisfactory rose.  It blooms almost the year round, and at times so vigorously that it makes a striking mass of colour six feet high in the garden.   Its old damask perfume is very rich and the bush is a strong and healthy grower.

For a generation 'Laurent Carle', HT (Pernet-Ducher, 1907.) has been a dependable, richly fragrant, brilliant, velvety carmine rose that is yet easily in the best dozen of its color.
