'Madame Plantier' rose References
Book  (1994)  Page(s) 8.

Jessie Mould has made a very intensive study of old roses in the Banks Peninsula area [of New Zealand], and also especially in the area settled by French colonists at Akaroa. So widely were roses circulated through his See by the Roman Catholic bishop that 'Old Blush' , the little pink rose, gained the local name 'Bishop Pompallier's Rose'. Likewise the good bishop distributed 'Madame Plantier' as he toured the district conducting weddings and christenings, so that it became known as 'The Bride's Rose'.

Madame Plantier Parentage: Possibly R. damascena x R. moschata. Description... this rose is really best thought of as an unusually long-limbed and rather lax-growing Damask. Vita Sackville-West put these long branches to good use at Sissinghurst by training them into the lower branches of her apple trees, creating an effect that she described as crinolines of white flowers...

Alba Roses
Very little pruning is required because the Alba needs size to dispkay its spring mantle to the fullest.
Madame Plantier (Hybrid Alba 1835)
The plant does well as a short pillar or cascading shrub. The pure white, pompon shaped blooms come many together on languid stems, looking for all the world like tissue paper carnations, sometimes with a green eye. This rose has yet to fail me with a spectacular spring display.
