Bred by Mathias Leenders (1883 - 1958) (Netherlands, before 1925).
Introduced in France by Grandes Roseraies du Val de la Loire in 1925 as 'Pius XI'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1927 as 'Pius XI'.
Class:
Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Cream, pink edges.  Moderate fragrance.  Large, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Dense, upright.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Vigorous.

Notes:
Pope Pius XI died on February 10, 1939.
