Can someone please explain why this fantastic rose has been removed from the American market? It is always a topic of visitors to rose shows.

Lots of nurseries are selling this rose in the USA... even in California, see the "Buy From" tab.

Its just harder to find than 5 years ago, mostly because a lot of distributors went under or changed due to the economy.

None of USA nursery sell black magic lately because Jackson & Perkins is exclusively hold patent of distributing this rose in USA. I spoke to many rosarians and nursery, they answer the same. No one able to budded bare root or propagate own root. But good new is J&P will reintroduce to the market hopefully in 2016. I just got 5 gallons potted Black Magic from Regan Nursery, Fremont CA

Washington Park removed all of their Black Magic, but left ONE tree form of it, in a random location. Since J/P went bankrupt, a lot of competition has emerged and taken over.
It is a difficult quandary. On one hand, J/P fell face first, because they were stuck in the 80s machine. "Bigger is better, 1980s Marketing." Concepts like Knock Out literally knocked them out, and so did the way they delivered product. But, the thing is, roses like Black Magic are so unique, despite their flaws. Not even Taboo is similar to it. It is a tough scenario.

The last plant I got from J&P 2 years ago, Disneyland, was horrible. Black Magic should be a grafted rose not own root, too. In So. Calif, Black Magic is a fabulous rose.

Yeah, California is somewhat similar to a florist rose environment, so it likely does better there. It does well here (OR) in the growing season, but it has issues with the dark, wet winters.

Our San Jose municipal rose garden also removed Black Magic three years ago. J&P re-introduced limited quantity to Otto and Sons, Fillmore, CA and Regan nursery got some from them. Along with many new and old varieties of Jackson and Perkins roses, Elegant Lady, Change of Heart, Wildfire, Soft Whisper, Clouds of Glory, Daring Sprit, etc, etc. I'm also bought Soft Whisper and Clouds of Glory, really good new J&P roses, nobody realize that. I heard this re-intro news since bare root season began but I'm afraid to order from J&P most roses are not survived, poor quality. I rather paid buds out and blooms potted rose for $45

I saw that its now available on the J/P website. But after raising enough seedlings from it, I am abandoning it as a breeder. 100% mildew rate in seedlings.
I was hoping they would re-intro Merlot, the red/white bi-color, or Ronald Reagan. There are so few clean red/white bi-colors, and they seem okay.
For those that are reading this and do buy J/P Roses, I would recommend 'Cinnamon Girl'. It is really good. I am not a fan of J/P or miniatures in general, so that is my honest evaluation.

I saw fairest one and Ronald Regan few years ago in local nursery, wasn't sure those are good roses at this time. I have rare collection called Brandenburg Gate from Steve Singer of Wisconsin Roses. Well form large red with white reverse. Oh yeah anyone buying direct from J&P read scoop on Dave's garden watch dog. Bad negative rating ever!

It's interesting to me, that 'Love' is still the red/white garden staple. Some 35ish years later...

Found Black Magic return to Regan Nursery, Fremont CA. Believe to be re introduce by Jackson and Perkins, along with many other old and new J&P roses. Plants are looking great since old J&P is gone, I think new J&P is on the right track. I have big list of J&P roses to buy
