Origin:

Introduced in Australia by George Brunning - St. Kilda Nurseries in 1904 as 'Rosa sancta Richard, not Andrews'.

Class:

Gallica / Provins, Shrub, Species Cross.

Bloom:

Rose-pink to salmon-pink. Strong fragrance. Medium to large, single (4-8 petals), borne mostly solitary, cluster-flowered bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer.

Habit:

Armed with thorns / prickles, bushy. Semi-glossy, light green foliage. 5 to 9 leaflets.

Height: 3' to 5' (90 to 150cm). Width: up to 4' (up to 120cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 4b and warmer.

Patents:

Parentage:

Rosa gallica L. × Rosa phoenicia Boissier

Notes:

'St. John's Rose' is a synonym of R. sancta Andrews, not of R. sancta Richard.
