Roy Shepherd tells us that it was the Grand Duke of Russia who, obtaining a plant for the Imperial Garden at St. Petersburg, gave it its name... pale flesh-pink... there was a pink variety, perhaps a sport...

In cool and damp areas, some of the very full OGRs, such as 'Souvenir de la Malmaison', will "ball" and not open...
