Page 102: Translation: "In Remembrance of Malmaison". Bourbon. Béluze 1843. 'Mme Desprez' (Bourbon) x A Tea Rose (possibly 'Devoniensis')... Mons Béluze, horticulturalist at Vaise, a suburb of Lyon, has found among his seedlings a new Bourbon rose which, as a fancier from Lyon tells us, is very beautiful... Basically flesh, the blossom, tinted violet upon opening... It was in 1840 that Mons Béluze Sr., rose-breeder in Lyon, sowed the seeds which produced the splendid and magnificent rose... Mons Plantier, distinguished rosarian, declared on sight that this was one of the most fortunate obtentions of the time... The original specimen of 'Malmaison' still exists at Lyon [in 1879]... Béluze released it to commerce in June 1843... Soft pearly flesh-pink... never so beautiful in summer as in autumn... injured by rain... sported 'Kronprinzessin Viktoria' (Volvert, 1888 [milk-white]); 'Mme Cornélissen' (Cornélissen, 1865 [yellowish pink]); 'Mlle Berthe Clavel' (Chauvry, 1891 [yellow and pink]); 'Mlle Marie-Thérèse de la Devansaye' (Chédane-Guinoisseau 1895 [pure white])
