Bred by Albert Norman (United Kingdom, before 1940).
Introduced in United Kingdom by R Harkness & Co. Ltd. in 1946 as 'Ena Harkness'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1949 as 'Ena Harkness'.

Class:

Hybrid Tea.

Bloom:

Crimson - scarlet. Mild to strong, damask fragrance. 30 petals. Large, full (26-40 petals), high-centered bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.

Habit:

Upright. Leathery foliage.

Height: 2' to 32" (60 to 80cm). Width: 17" to 2' (45 to 60cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 6b and warmer. Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant. Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.

One of Harry Wheatcroft's selections for best hybrid teas... he also says that 'Lancastrian' in color and habit is similar to 'Ena Harkness', but unlike 'Ena Harkness', 'Lancastrian’ holds its head up a little better..
