'Anytime' rose References

Allison Scott, Hutt Valley. Some of my favourites: Anytime metallic red, blue tinge centre. I love this single type bloom.

Don Sheppard. Final Analysis 1985-86
Anytime McGredy 1973. ('New Penny' x 'Elizabeth of Glamis'); salmon-orange; 12 petals; 18 reports; 50cm. 7.2 rating. This little rose has unusual colour tonings - a smoky tinge overlays the basic colour. Most reports are from the North Island, where they find it makes quite a large bush, and it is always healthy. When the bush is covered with semi-single blooms, it makes a good show. The buds open quite quickly in a swirling style. The repeat, unfortunately, is rather slow. One or two feel that it is not a true Miniature, but it is worth trying.

Anytime. McGredy, 1973. 'New Penny' x 'Elizabeth of Glamis'. The semi-single (twelve petals) flowers on this vigorous free-blooming plant are salmon-orange with an almost metallic look. The foliage is very dark.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1984-85 Season.
Anytime McGredy 1973 ('New Penny' x 'Elizabeth of Glamis'). 12 petals, orange blend. 7 reports, 15 bushes, 2-6 years, 60cm. 7.4 rating. The colour of the blooms is regarded as unusual by four of the reporters. One puts it like this: "red-pink-lilac with blue centre". Lower Hutt cannot fault it, as it is always healthy and in bloom. Three reports mention that the foliage tends to be a little on the large side for a good mini, and Kapiti and Palmerston North feel the whole plant is too big for a true mini, yet the whole is cute. A good garden mini tho from all accounts.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses in 1983-84 Season.
Anytime McGredy 1973. ('New Penny' x 'Elizabeth of Glamis'). Pinky red, 7 reports, 11 plants, 1-7 years. 50cm's, 7.3 rating. Gisborne and Auckland feel the single bloom is too large. Rotorua says it opens in an unusual swirl, is different. it opens fast to show stamens. The foliage is dark. The repeat, West Otago says, is slow. The plant is generally healthy.
Book  (1980)  Page(s) 106.

The Final Analysis 1979-1980.
Anytime 6.9. A small plant which some reviewers say could be classified as a miniature. Mauve/pink blooms which are almost continuous.
Book  (1979)  Page(s) 51-56.

A Hand-Painted Family Tree
SAM MCGREDY
One of the easiest seedsetters is 'Anytime'. It also pays to cross roses from widely different lines. So it was natural to cross 'Anytime' with MACJOSE and 'Eyepaint'. The resulting MACSUPSID and MACMIGMOU are both immensely free shrubby types, the former oddly marked, the latter reminiscent of MACYELEYE. MACRAJA is a true miniature. All three are shades of orange and yellow, novel and interesting.

Review of New Roses 1977-1978
Anytime Mauve-pink blend. 10 reports; 3 years; 70cm. Rating 6:9. Palmerston North: A real whizz kid! In my book a small flowering floribunda but some say a miniature, confusion often at shows where I have seen it take first in both categories. Gisborne: Very unusual colour. Neither miniature nor floribunda.
Book  (1976)  Page(s) 26.

Review of Newer Roses - 1975-76 Season. Floribundas.
Anytime Cerise/salmon. 10 reports. 1 year. Average height 75cm. N.R.S. rating 6.9. A giant miniature. Flowers for seven months with 1" blooms of unusual metallic rosy red. Blenheim: Luminous brick red single miniature blooms in nicely shaped trusses. A floral art rose. Gisborne: Very free flowering miniature flowers on big bush. Colour lovely when fresh, florets age badly in truss.
Book  (1974)  Page(s) 159.

Avenue Nurseries advertisement. New Zealand Rose Releases 1974.
Anytime. Best described as a giant miniature. A normal sized bush 3 to 4ft high and smothered for seven months of the year with 1" blooms of an unusual metallic rosy red. A real novelty from Sam McGredy.
