This rose is doing horribly in my So. CA garden--rust, black spots, plus the buds do not always open up fully. The scent is minimal, color almost a washed-out yellow. I would not buy this again for my area.

I live in Diamond Bar CA and my bush goes "Gang Busters". Have no problems with deseases of any kind. One of my favorate roses. Love the pastel yellow and the spiral tea form. Bush is 3 years old. One of the first to bloom in the spring and is still blooming when i cut back in January.

I got this rose last year and yanked it out finally the other day. It was a very poor performer, diseased, few blooms, etc. I tried everthing before I gave up, and I don't give up easily. I have plenty of other roses, so I've learned not to keep any bad ones for more than 3 years max. I live in southern CA, coastal.

Many times when a rose doesn't do well it may not be where you grow it but the bush itself. Sometimes when you replace the bush with another of the same name, you get a totally different result. Don't give up if you really like the rose.

I also had the washed out yellow, almost white, in my Alabama sun. I also had thrips on this roses. Seems in hot summers all the light colored roses get thrips and fade.

Try MIDAS TOUCH. This grows quite well in the Coastal areas here in NorCAL. It has long stems and a pungent scent! kHAAS of Silicon Valley

One of our best yellows. Helmut is a bit tender and I always protect him in winter. He is a vigorous grower once the weather warms up and produces some of the best flushes in our yard during late summer and fall. One of Deb's top 5 favorites. She saw a photo of Helmut in a book back in 1996 and was on a mission. Deb loves yellows and was determined to find him. I told her HS had a 'tender' reputation. You would think I would learn not to bother. We found a healthy plant in 2000 and Helmut came to our yard. He performed pretty well the first year. I mounded the rascal the first winter and he survived. Canes die back below the mounding line and he is one of the last to get started in spring.

Helmut gives us 30 to 70 blooms per flush. 1st flush is almost always small (the 30) and later flushes are huge (60 - 70) once the weather warms up. He is our only yellow that has good bloom life. They open slowly and last a week. Fragrance is mild. The first few years I couldn't understand why folks said blooms were often bullnosed. Blooms on Helmut were almost all perfect. After Helmut got established, I began seeing quite a few bullnosed blooms. Turnaround time is average, about 6 weeks.

Helmut gets 3 feet tall x 5 feet wide here. Once established, he became a well behaved bush. Foliage is thick and healthy. Foliage color looks great with the bloom color. Blackspot is not a problem here. Helmut will get powdery mildew if conditions are right and he is neglected. Very good rose

Edit: I was asked about bullnosed blooms. I'm adding this photo that shows some better than my other one. The blooms without a spiral in the center are what I think of as bullnosed. (Lower left and center right)
