The name changing of roses is currently causing a good deal of concern to quite a few people including ourselves. We have always tried to stay with the name the hybridiser gives the new rose, although translations from one language to another have not bothered us. In some countries the rose 'Esmeralda' will be known as 'Keepsake',

Esmeralda (Kordes) HT. Rich rose-pink with very good formation, and 30 or so petals. Reverse of petals is lighter. Foliage is light green and healthy. Fragrant. The plant is vigorous, and throws a lot of watershoots.

KORmalda  (Seedling x 'Red Planet'). A mid-pink, strongly scented H.T. by Kordes, with splendid foliage. It is a vigorous rose which has always impressed me. Unofficially I have heard it called 'Esmeralda' but, whatever it is called, I plan to grow it myself. Trial Ground Certificate.
Book  (1981)  Page(s) 136.

My favourite HT is the only entry from Kordes KO73595, a superb shaped pink reminiscent of a deeper coloured, larger flowered 'Silver Lining'. Bushes are healthy, but habit not as good as it might be and blooms a little slow to repeat, nevertheless this rose has real style. It is good to see that one breeder still places form high on his priority list.
