Mystic Beauty and all the Souvenir 'clan'-- Souvenir de la Malmaison, Souvenir de St. Ann's, and Kronprincessin-- are excellent in the heat and humidity of SE coastal Virginia. And can be counted on for almost continuous bloom! Most have a bushy spreading growth habit, will be wider than tall, and perform well no-spray. They'll shed inner and lower leaves, but I just tidy up under the plants which never look bare.
Here Maggie (a found Bourbon) is a better bet than Mme. Isaac Pereire and other classic Bourbons-- much healthier foliage and better repeat too!

I was shying away from this rose as I've had bad experience with Souv.de la Malm.......it continually balled and never opened in my garden. I was convinced to give this rose a try and I've got to say it is magnificent in all ways. Vigorous, floriferous, color, fragrance, disease resistance......and no balling.....no faults that I can see to this point. (2nd year) Highly recommend.

Michael do you use any pesticides on your roses? If you do, what do you suspect would happen with Mystic Beauty if you did not spray it to prevent black spot infection?

I've only ever grown one Bourbon (Mme. Pierre Oger) and it was a black spot utter disaster. If I understand correctly Bourbons don't have a good reputation for resisting black spot. (When it died one winter just a few years after I planted it I didn't replace it.)

Very disease resistant here in coastal Virginia with no spray program.

Have had no balling problems either, much to my delight!

I live in Zone 7b, Birmingham AL. This rose is a sport of Souvenir de la Malmaisokn. It is the same as that rose, but the flowers are a darker pink.

There seems to be a bit of confusion regarding the genesis of this rose. It's generally stated that Mystic Beauty is a sport of Souvenir de la Malmaison; however, it has also been reported that Mystic Beauty first appeared on a plant of Kronprincessin Viktoria, which is itself a sport of Souvenir de la Malmaison.

I suspect that the confusion regarding parentage is the reason for the blank that appears after 'sport of' on the main page for Mystic Beauty here at HMF.

Glad to see that the question regarding 'parentage' seems now to have been resolved in favor of Kronprinzessin Viktoria.
