This rose is also known as 'Sweet Caitlin' or 'Sweet Kathleen' in Australia.
Avaliable in Swane's nurseries Australia.

I find it frustrating when the rose names keep changing. When I first typed in Sweet Caitlin on HMF, there were no matching results. I was excited because I thought this must be a new rose only made available in Australia. Two years later, I found out that 'Sweet Caitlin' goes by another name called, 'Golden Zest' in US. Pretty disappointed.

Thanks Jimmy.
Can you quote a reference that we can link 'Sweet Caitlin' with 'Jacbelgo'? The picture of 'Sweet Caitlin' on page 1 of the 2006 Australian Rose Annual certainly seems to be the same rose.

Swanes come up with some wonderful new names that take a lot of tracking down.
They have another rose called 'Sweet Cailin' - syn 'Sweet Colleen' and I havent yet found out what that one may be.

And still another one, 'Mary MacKillop' that seems to have been bred in America, but Modern Roses has it as coming from Swanes in Australia. How did they do that?

You're disappointed. I get just plain mad.

I googled Sweet Caitlin and Jacbelgo together and Swanes rose guide 2008 (catalogue) appeared in the search. The rose catalogue states:

"Sweet CAITLIN (JACbelho) Height:140cm Colour:Lemon yellow. FRAGRANCE: Sweet with citrus tang."

I assume the bracket means the rose original /synonymous name. The catalogue also list "Sweet Cailin" - syn "Sweet Collen" as JAC untor. Again, if you google that,
JAC untor is "Peach Petticoat".

Honestly, I prefer the name, Sweet Caitlin over golden zest or Jacbelho. "Golden Zest" sounds a bit too "plain" and ordinary. I wouldn't have bought it if was named, "Golden Zest".

The name, "Sweet Caitlin", however, sounds a lot interesting. In fact, Swanes gave this rose a very nice description:

"This is a truly beautiful rose, charming and fresh like an Irish colleen. It has a sweet perfume with strong citrus characteristics. Fully cupped yellow blooms are set off in glorious splendour against the intense dark green foliage. Caitlin (Kathleen) was adopted by Irish writers as a pseudonym for Ireland. Following the enactment of repressive laws towards the close of the 17th century poets and writers were unable to refer to Ireland by name, so they introduced other names including that of Caitlin (Kathleen)"

I suppose it's all to do with MARKETING, MARKETING....

It would be great if consent is gained from the appropriate persons/authority, in order to create a HMF listing for the different rose, 'Sweet Cailin (Colleen)' (aka JACuntor). There is currently no listing for this rose on HMF.

Adding new plants or synonyms is not an exact science. We are always anxious about add a duplicate just because a nursery opts to introduce a plant under a different name.

In this case, there seems confusion enough already. Our interpretation is Sweet Caitlin' aka 'Jacbelgo' was offered in the Swane's catalog in 2007 & 2008 but no longer seems available. We not sure where the Sweet Caitlin' and JACuntor connection comes in.

The connection comes from the discussion further up where Patricia and then Jimmy noted that Swane's nurseries also offer a very similarly named rose to 'Sweet Caitlin' called 'Sweet Cailin'..(both are different rose cultivars)... yes you read it correctly, just one letter difference in the name.

As I write here, I am also looking at a current Swane's rose catalogue. It is clear from the pictures as well as the written commentary in this catalogue, that 'Sweet Caitlin (Kathleen)' (aka JACbelgo) and 'Sweet Cailin (Colleen)' (aka JACuntor) are being offered for sale as two very different looking roses with a similar common theme to these two names....On the page where these two distinct roses are featured, the catalogue explains that "Caitlin (Kathleen)" and "Cailin (Colleen)" are female names that have historically come to be embraced in Irish popular culture.

Yes, we missed the slight difference in the name - we've added it. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

This rose has a lemony scent that is quite strong. The blooms are beautiful and very plentiful. The rose bush itself is probably 3 feet tall, but it is a first year. The blooms open yellow and then fade to a deep gold. This rose started me on yellows, as I was not a fan of yellow roses before I fell in love with this one's scent.

Does it have a long bloom time?

The blooms only seem to last a few days in the extreme heat that we have been experiencing. However the 2 bushes that I have of this one seem to rarely be without a bloom. It bounced back from the 'Easter Freeze' without a lot of problems. This rose is well worth the space.
