L.D. Braithwaite has bright red blooms as 2nd-year own-root, not much scent, and the plant is VERY VIGOROUS, taller than Lavender Crush climber next to it. Young canes have dense prickles. Now in late Sept, it's 6 feet tall. Blooms have a myrrh scent when first opened.

L.D. Braithwaite thorns are dark brown on older canes, but lighter green and very dense on its octopus canes. Leaves are large & healthy even with day-long rain. Canes are taller than 3 feet as 2nd-year-own-root, much more vigorous and winter-hardy than Tradescant.

2nd year own-root L.D. Braithwait is VERY VIGOROUS and spreading wide at 3' x 3'. Cane hardy in zone 5a with zero winter kill. Now in June it's just as tall as Lavender Crush climber, but L.D. Braithwaite is much wider. Slight myrrh scent. Color is from bright red to gaudy pinkish red. Very stingy in partial shade.
