Even with heavy editing, I still can't make these blooms look as great as they do in real life. The buds start virtually black, lightening as they unfurl. The most intense, fruity old-rose scent. Very similar to David Austin's Munstead Wood in fragrance. Good vigour. First growing season, grafted on multiflora from Palatine Roses. Reasonably healthy so far. Digital cameras can't capture the magic; gorgeous blackened crimson outer petals with lighter interior ones that practically glow in the garden. Rich, fruity fragrance similar to David Austin's Munstead Wood but far less prickly and better shaped shrub (even though this is season one). Multiflora grafted from Palatine. I refer to her as 'Astrid' due to the woman this rose honours. To me, "Black Caviar" sounds disgusting and snobby.
