Unfortunately it seems this rose is relatively mildew-prone. In the attached photo, it's the one that's afflicted. No spraying has been carried out this year.

Not at my place, but this year after the mild winter and in a very/relatively dry and hot season a lot of black-spot. Despite that still a good amount of flowers. The flowers tend to ball in rain.

Mine doesn't get mildew, which is the most common fungal disease in my garden. My plant is in quite an exposed position in full sun and wind; could that make a difference? Also no problem with blackspot, which in my garden shows up mostly in fall anyway. This has been a very good rose for me.

I've had a grafted plant of 'Astrid Grafin von Hardenberg' in my northern Italian garden for some years now and it has been a very good rose. It's in full sun and wind, doesn't get supplemental water and for fertilizer gets mulched with the clippings from its annual pruning and the grass that grows around it. It's in rather stony clay ground that has been gardened in for about a decade. The plant is bigger than described here: mine is about 5 1/2' (165 cm) tall and perhaps 4' (120 cm) wide. It blooms well, the flowers are beautiful, the color being particularly striking, and fragrant. My plant has an upright, vase shaped growth, not floppy or wide spreading. It is not particularly troubled by disease or pests...perhaps it gets some mildew during the summer drought, as many of my roses do. The foliage is large, dark, and handsome. I grow mostly old roses, but this is one modern rose that is welcome in my garden and I hope will be with me for many years.
