In my opinion this rose has a strong, sweet and pleasant fragrance, but at the same time my wife almost didn't detect a scent... and what she smelled didn't please her.
I detested the looks of this rose untill I saw it in the garden Villebranch Bramble of aurelija. Over there it looked more like the rose on this photo: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=21.201049 and I consider it now as a pretty and interesting rose.

I'm not sure how anyone could consider this rose "thornless, or nearly so" as it is bristly prickly in my experience. I haven't found any canes lightly prickled. The fragrance is intense with strong elements of very ripe Mutsu apples, clove and allspice. An intensely seductive and satisfying rose in my climate. Totally without any fungal or insect issues in a transition zone between coastal-marine influence and inland valley heat, no spray, Southern California garden.
