Bloom:
Yellow. Strong, raspberry, tea fragrance. Average diameter 5". Very large, very double, borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, cupped, globular bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.
Habit:
Climbing. Glossy, light green foliage. 3 to 7 leaflets. Height of 10' to 15' (305 to 455 cm). Width of up to 6' (up to 185 cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Shade tolerant. Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .
Notes:
According to E. Verdier, 'Maréchal Niel' is a found rose discovered by Louis Castel in 1857 in the garden of Mr. Chateau in Montauban - see References. The attribution to Pradel is probably due to a confusion with the hybrid perpetual of the same name issued by this breeder in 1861.
