Pretty shade of red, not very vigorous though. A nice calm slow growing rose for me. No fragrance, however very pretty form and alone on a long stem. We will see how they do this spring and summer after this very cold winter, here in Denver.

I've grown Olympiad for many years in zone 6 with no winter protection, so I'm not surprised that others say it survives in zone 5. It does well in temperatures over 100 as well. This is a superior rose.

Thank you. I have changed the cold hardiness on the rose page to 5b and put a NOTE on the rose page to refer other site users to COMMENTS to view your post about this rose.

Yes, the rose has already been listed as "heat tolerant". On a personal note, I have found roses with thick petal substance do handle triple digit temps much better than roses without that plant characteristic.

Smiles,
Lyn

Thanks, and also for telling me about the thickness of rose petals indicating heat tolerance. That makes perfect sense, as certainly moisture would leave thin petals faster.

Thanks so much! Dianne

Here in South Carolina I am amazed at this rose's performance during the blistering hot and humid summer. The blooms of this rose in my experience, seem totally immune to the heat (commonly 90+ F in the summer). No fading or wilting so far. Not much disease trouble either, the only black spot attack seemed to occur right as the leaves were on their way out in the fall.

If you live in the South and want a red hybrid tea with class A++ performance, this is the rose for you. The only other rose I would liken to it for heat performance would be Don Juan, although its blooms are not *as* tough as Olympiads, but then again you do get more fragrance out of a DJ.
