'Aviateur Blériot'. Rambler. Pale Tea Rose yellow, fading almost to white, the small flowers are slightly scented and borne in big clusters in summer, rather late in the rose season. It has glossy dark green foliage. For many years it has been popular as a weeping standard, for the sake of its color, but it is not otherwise seen now except where a ‘period piece’ Edwardian garden is maintained. There is rarely any repeat bloom. The rose, which appeared in 1910 was raised by a M. Fauque. It was named for Louis Blériot, the first man to make an international aeroplane flight, from Calais to Dover in 1909. Rosa wichuraiana x ‘William Allen Richardson’. Summer flowering. Fragrant.

‘Aviateur Blériot’. Fauque, France 1910. R. wichuraiana x 'William Allen Richardson'. Vigorous but more upright than most of its kind and rather less thorny. Large trusses of scented, double, orange-yellow flowers, fading to creamy-yellow flowers, fading to creamy-yellow with age. Foliage dark green, burnished bronze, healthy. Summer Flowering only. Tolerant of poor soils. Moderately fragrant. Availability limited. 12' x 6' (3.5 x 1.8m)

‘Aviateur Blériot’ = Hybrides de Rosa luciae. Rosa luciae x ‘William Allen Richardson’. Fauque en 1910… rosier vigoureux… feuillage brillant… fleurs moyennes, semi-doubles… jaune ambré puis pâlissent jusqu’au blanc jaunâtre… parfum plutôt discret.

'Aviateur Blériot' (1910). Another non-recurrent hybrid but very beautiful nevertheless. The buds are orange-yellow, and the flowers, when open, fade to lemon and cream. They are very double, about 75mm across and very fragrant. Foliage is dark and glossy and the plant will grow to 5 metres.
