E. F. Allen. 'Lady Mary Fitzwilliam' - Lost Again.
...Gordon Rowley....was able to report the discovery from the garden of B. S. T. Wallace of Norbury, SW London. Significantly Mr. Wallace described his rose as being "a bright two-toned pink". .In August, 1976, Leonard Longley, the veteran rosarian from Rainham, Kent, wrote to me to the effect that, in his opinion, a stem of the so-called 'Lady Mary Fitzwilliam' which I myself had shown at the Centenary Summer Show, was not correctly named but was the much later 'Mrs. Wakefield Christie-Miller' (McGredy, 1909) a variety which I did not know. Since Mr. Longley claimed to have cultivated this particular rose at his nursery for 67 years without a break.......All three of us on the panel were then convinced that Mr. Leonard Longley was correct and that the Rowley-Wallace rose should now be named 'Mrs. Wakefield Christie-Miller'....
