C. H. Isaac, Vic.  Roses I Met in the United Kingdom.
First to catch my eye was Permanent Wave. This rose was not altogether unknown to me but was masquerading under an assumed name— I first made its acquaintance in Belgium as Mevrouw van Straaten van Ness - but its pseudonym seemed most appropriate. Of a lovely carmine pink, the petals are decidedly wavy. It belongs to the aristocracy of the polyanthas—the new " Hybrid Polyanthas " which are fast becoming "the rage" overseas for massed bedding and for cutting.

Harry H. Hazlewood.  Novelty.
There has been very little change in petal shape, but Mevrouw van Straaten van Nes, with its waved or fluted outline, may be the forerunner of a new type.

General List.  Floribunda Roses. Mevrouw van Straaten van Nes (Leenders 1933). 2.  Deep carmine with waved petals, produced in clusters of eight to ten.  Called 'Permanent Wave' in America, while in Europe it is shortened to 'Van Nes'.

T. G. Stewart, Box Hill, Vic.  Polyantha Roses
A most unusual variety which should be better known is Mevrouw van Straaten van Nes (Permanent Wave). The individual petals have an unusual wave in them that give the blooms a most attractive appearance. The colour, cochineal carmine, does not sound attractive, but, nevertheless, the variety is attractive.

O. R. Fitzhardinge. New Garden, New Roses.
Have a long row of Van Nes (Mevrouw Van Straaten Van Nes). The men may not like it, but have it all the same. When you cut it, try a glass vase. Some of these modern toned Roses are surprisingly fussy about the colour of the vase that suits them.
Book  (1939)  Page(s) 87.

John Poulsen. The Rose as a Shrub.
A new variety is Mevrouw Van Straton Van Ness (what a name!), a sport from Else Poulsen, and known in America as Permanent Wave owing to the wavy nature of its petals. It is a very strong grower with heavy foliage. The colour is deeper than that of Else Poulsen.
