‘Tangkhul’ is the sub- name of one of the tribes, collectively called ‘Nagas’ who live in the seven states of north east of India , including and particularly in the state of Manipur which is where we went looking for R.gigantea in the wild forests abutting the neighboring country of Burma (now called Myanmar). The Tanghkul Nagas were pretty ferocious, being head hunters, but Christian missionaries in the early 20th century have tamed them. Many have beautiful singing voices, and there are many well known choirs.
‘Tangkhul Treasure’ is a strong and vigorous climbing rose with pure white double flowers, very large and full.
