E. F. Allen. Awards To New Rose Seedlings In Great Britain In 1970.
A Certificate of Merit was awarded to Prominent (Parentage not revealed). This so-called Floribunda, by Kordes, can better be described as a very free-flowering, small-flowered Hybrid Tea with the most intense petal colour that I have ever seen in a rose. The elegantly pointed flowers are of the deepest and brightest vermilion and are carried on thin stiff stems. I would guess that it is a seedling from 'Colour Wonder'. In a difficult year this rose seemed never to be out of flower and, as recently as August, I thought it would be certain to win a Gold Medal. However, some mildew appeared on the necks during September and this doubtless influenced the judges. Nevertheless, I shall be greatly surprised if this seedling does not win a higher award next year. At the time of writing the provisional name of 'Prominent' has not yet been registered in the U.K.
