I don't grow either, but I'm noticing some similarities between the rose currently being grown under this name and the found rose "Benny Lopez". Has anyone else made the comparisons?

I note that all of the roses photographed for the Moreau-Robert rose are consistent with the description "mauve or mauve blend portland" in the third field but make nonsense of the color description in the sixth field, "Vermilion." I understand that Botanica's Pocket Roses pictures a coral colored rose for the Moreau-Robert portland of this name; but when it goes on to describe the rose as vermilion with stripes, I cannot help but wonder whether that writer has confused the portland with a more recent rose, namely the red shrub rose by Benjamin Williams. It certainly does have vermilion instances. And stripes. Furthermore, Williams' Rembrandt can be accurately described as "brick red" in accord with Heirloom Roses description in the ninth field. So all the problems on this page could be fixed by turning "Vermilion" to "Mauve," and by removing the Heirloom Roses comment to the Ben Williams Rembrandt rose record.

It seems that this might be one case where a large collection of knowledgable rose lovers might have gotten it right when an expert made a rare and subtle error. Otherwise, one must reject all the photos for the Moreau-Robert rose as being wrong.

'Rembrandt' in commerce and gardens today is mislabeled. Heirloom's description is taken from the historic descriptions, but does not reflect the current rose. Vermilion can also be described as brick-red. We probably need to establish a Rembrant (in commerce) listing.

That sounds like a good idea. Thank you.
