The Hybrid Chinese Rose.
The following are among the best of this family of roses: [...] George the Fourth is an old rose raised some forty years ago by the excellent English cultivator, Mr. Rivers. Its bright crimson color and its neat foliage make it very attractive, though it is less double than some other varieties.

Rivers's George the Fourth is a Hybrid China; grows about ten feet high;.flowers large, of a very rich crimson color. This is also a fine dwarf Rose, when pruned down, and, like most of the Hybrid China, stands perfectly well in the open ground, but the tops are always winterkilled here.

George the Fourth, H.C. [Hybrid China], is an old rose, produced by T. Rivers, but is still one of the most desirable of this class. Its flowers are of a dark crimson, and its young shoots have a purple tinge. Its very luxuriant habit makes it suitable for a pillar.
