See References for speculation that R. anemoneflora is a natural hybrid of R. banksiae and R. moschata. The synonym Rosa triphylla has been applied to at least two different species: R. laevigata and R. anemoneflora. The first has large single blooms, while the second bears a striking resemblance to R. x fortuneana.
