'Royal William' rose References
Book  (Sep 1993)  Page(s) 355.  Includes photo(s).

Royal William (KORzaun, 'Duftzauber '84', 'Fragrant Charm') Large-flowered. Reimer Kordes. This rose was introduced in 1983, when Britain was celebrating the birth of Prince William. The Palace apparently did not approve the name [because] 'Royal William' commemorates the tricentenary of the Glorious Revolution of 1688... a fine red rose... The German name, 'Duftzauber '84', originally used for a lighter red Kordes rose of 1969, means 'scented magic'... 'Feuerzauber' x unnamed seedling

E. F. Allen:
KORzaun:  most nurserymen spell this KORzuan, perhaps in error. It has been called 'Royal William', to celebrate the coming of William of Orange to the English throne in 1688. It seems to be a splendid Large Flower and my observations suggest that it does better outdoors than under glass.
Book  (1988)  Page(s) 19.

(Kordes, Germany) promises great things, as it looks to have a decent plant below its handsome flower.
Book  (1988)  Page(s) 76.

(KORzuan, 'Duftzauber') Description. Selecting the Rose of the Year for 1987 was an extraordinary business. Two contenders tied for the vote on a hand count. A more extensive postal ballot was decreed -- and resulted in yet another tie! Two roses therefore share the honour. One is 'Sweet Magic' … the other is 'Royal William' from Kordes of Germany. It is named … to commemorate the coming of King William III to England in 1688.
Book  (1986)  Page(s) 19.

Fragrant Charm '86 or (Duftzauber) Another lovely red from Kordes. This has a large well-formed bloom in the bud, opening quickly, is fragrant and about 30 to 35 petals.

E. F. Allen, Awards To New Rose Seedlings In Great Britain In 1985.
'Duftzauber, KORzaun, a robust large flower by Reimer Kordes, with blood red, faintly scented flowers and good rain resistance. I need to see more of this fine vigorous rose before being able to assess it fully. Trial Ground Certificate.
