Salet (Lacharme, 1854) is our only autumnal Moss rose. It is thought to be of Damask derivation or Damask cross, as it bears in branched clusters in a scheme of threes bearing many bracts. The moss is clear green on calyx, sepals, and stems. The bloom is large and full, of a fine pink color with deeper pink center, fading off to a lilac-pink.

The Old Roses
So much do we think of the Good Old Roses, growing more popular each year in spite of their antiquity, that we list them here by themselves.  Many of these are no longer in commerce but, recognizing their merits as well as their rich associations, we grow more of them each year.  We love and respect them.

Moss Roses are forms of the Cabbage Roses which bear a crown of lacy moss upon the stems and sepals. They are exquisitely lovely in bud. Absolutely hardy. They should be given good soil and careful attention to bring out their best qualities, but they live and produce fair blooms when completely neglected.
Salet. (Robert, 1854.) Rosy pink flowers with blush edges. Free flowering and vigorous. Like Blanche Moreau, it is perpetual flowering but requires good care and favorable weather to bloom in autumn.

"Mildew-Resistant Roses: with some Suggestions as to Increasing their Number."
By Walter Easlea, F.R.H.S.
[Read July 17, 1917...]
We see mildew badly bequeathed to the offspring in the case of 'Wichmoss'. R. Wichuraiana was the seed parent, and the Moss Rose, 'Salet' the pollen parent.
'Salet' is one of the worst Moss Roses to mildew, so that although we have a curious blending of R. Wichuraiana and the Moss Rose in 'Wichmoss' it is not the type we need to perpetuate.
