Belle Herminie Coquerel, before 1829, or Vibert, between 1821 and 1838. Habit: upright shrub, quite strong branches, prickles and bristles. Foliage: light; elliptical leaflets, medium size. Bloom: 2 to 4 per inflorescence; double, medium size; quartered, slightly reflexing when aging; quite large central eye. Colour: carmine-purple, shaded mauve and spotted; pale edges. Fragrance: moderate...The authenticity of this variety is not certain. The specimen at L'Haÿ, described above, is attributed to Coquerel, an amateur from Le Havre. This 'Belle Herminie' effectively figures in the catalogue of Prévost of 1829, described thus: "purple-brown branches, glandular, unarmed. Medium size bloom, full, light lilac-flesh, pale edges"....The doubts result from the fact that the specimen of L'Haÿ has lighter edges, but is not "unarmed" and its tone does not really seems to be "light lilac-flesh".
The catalogues of the era mention numerous other 'Belle Herminie', be it 'Belle Herminie' or 'Belle Hermione' (without knowing whether these are different varieties or simple errors). Only Vibert, between 1821 and 1826, then in 1838, obtained about 15 'Belle Herminie' which he distinguished from each other in his catalogues with simple numbering. Contrary to that of Coquerel, these latter are spotted, as the specimen at L'Haÿ. One cannot exclude that this is in fact an obtention of Vibert.
