'Topaz Jewel' rose Reviews & Comments

In the description is stated, that it doesn't set hips... But it does! (see the photo's under the photo's tab for this rose date 2013-10-24) Most of them are empty, but of about 100 plants there were eight fertilized hips with each one seed. So now I'll try, after treatment, to germinate them the oncoming winter/spring season. All the offspring untill now (3 unique descendants) comes from pollen of this rose.

I am having trouble locating a nursery that has the topaz jewel rugosa rose in stock. If I am not able to find one this season, I would like to continue for next season.

Did you check with the mail order nurseries listed on the BUY FROM tab? High Country Roses, for example, shows Topaz Jewel in stock.

Hi just a comment on Topaz Jewel. It is apparently a slow grower. This is the second season for mine and it is still very small with little growth. The other rugosas purchased this year from The Uncommon Rose have already bloomed. I was wondering why Topaz Jewel was so slow growing when I noticed Paul Barden mentions on his site that it takes two seasons to it established. Jody

The fragrance is lovely and spicey, like cloves. Although this is one of the thorniest roses in my garden, it still is susceptible to the rose stem girdler.
