Daily Mail Scented. Rich deep velvety red with a scarlet sheen. Growth is medium to good, while the petals vary considerably, often making a high class show flower, and at other times semi-double only. Unfortunately, it is inclined to blue in the autumn or cool weather, but the colour is enhanced by warm, dry conditions.

Daily Mail Scented.-The early blooms scorched badly again and I decided to toss the bush out. The second crop was so satisfactory that I changed my mind. I do this every year, I'm afraid.

Daily Mail Scented (HT) (Archer, 1929) Fragrant. Height: 3. [vigorous growers of moderate height, for a 3rd row, which generally require 4ft of space]. Rich deep velvety red with a scarlet sheen. The colour quality is well maintained, while the flowers are richly scented. Growth is medium and the petals vary considerably, often making a high class show flower, and at other times semi-double only. The foliage is weak and prone to mildew in most zones unless on soil very rich in potash. The climbing sport promises to be one of the best red climbers available. The word “Scented” is an essential part of the name to distinguish it from the ‘Daily Mail’ (‘Mme. E. Herriot’) sent out in 1913. Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne, Mountains, Perth, Sydney.
