Bred by William Paul (1822-1905) (United Kingdom, before 1866).
Introduced in Australia by George Brunning - St. Kilda Nurseries in 1873 as 'Black Prince'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Dark red.  Strong fragrance.  Large, double (17-25 petals), full (26-40 petals), cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles.  
Height of 4' to 5' (120 to 150 cm).  Width of 3' (90 cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Disease susceptibility: susceptible to Mildew.  Prune after flowering is finished.
