Hi Billy,

I just bought this as 'Schimdt's Buff Giant' from Vintage Gardens. Lucky me! So is my rose the same as 'Anna Olivier'? They have it listed as a Tea-noisette climber, but I thought Anna was a tea. I'm not sure where to plant it now... How big is your plant?

Hi Theresa - We saw some stems from the parent plant of 'Schmidt's Buff Giant' during the Conference at El Cerrito in 2003 and the foliage, flower form, receptacle shape, pedical, prickles all seemed very like the rose we grow as 'Anna Olivier' in Australia. On the day, the colour was pale, without any of the deeper apricot or terracotta at the base of the petals and seemed slightly different from the range we see on AO, but I'd hate to make a definite call based on one sighting - especially with a Tea rose that varies in its colour as much as this one.
In our climate it grows very comfortably to about 7 feet tall and a little wider - taking a few years to build up to that size. If I pick blooms from it regularly and keep the spent blooms trimmed, it's happy to be a little smaller and more compact.
If completely neglected, it can build up into a substantial mound - I think there's a photo or two of the Nannup Bridge Anna Olivier/Lady Roberts in the gallery.

Thanks Billy. Is Lady Roberts a sport of it, or the same rose? I always wanted Lady Roberts, so maybe my wish has come true!
