I don't think this rose is Condesa de Sastago. All the North American, other European and Australian plants are consistent in that the flowers are flatter, less high-centred and have spoon-shaped petals, the stems are green, not red, the sepals are not as foliose, and the foliage tends to be much more yellow-green than shown. This is a much more modern flower, high-centred with rolled back petal edges. It looks consistent with Dulcinea, one of C de S's offspring but I have never seen that rose in the flesh. The comment also applies to the 5 previous photos.

It is quite possible that the difficult weather has caused the problem but there are also so many misidentifications in collections of old roses. It might actually be a good thing if this plant is mislabeled as CdS is relatively common around the world but some of Dot's later roses are very rare. Do you know if there is a reference collection of Dot's roses in Spain? If it exists I would like to visit it when the world gets back to normal.

Dot bred so many excellent roses and was by far the most innovative Spanish breeder so he ought to be celebrated. We only have a few of his roses in Australia. I already grow CdS, Radio and Duquesa de Penaranda, and have Lady Trent on order for this winter. The only other non-miniatures that I know exist in Australia are Nevada, Golden Moss and Mme G. Staechelin.

Thank-you for for your wonderful reply.

Petera, HelpMeFind member Jaume Garcia Urpí is the person to go to about Pedro Dot’s roses. (Eric Timewell in Victoria was also very interested in the Dot roses and did a fair amount of research on them)
There is this garden listed: Rosera de Dot i de Camprubí,
at Marquesa de Castellbell, 207 Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Catalunya 08980 Spain. A translation of part of the HelpMeFind text on the garden is:
We also want to show the work of rose growers in our country, such as Camprubí, Munné, Bofill, Pahissa and Ferrer, who helped advance the creation of new varieties, and especially Pere Dot,

Thanks Patricia. If/when the world returns to normal I will try to get there. I was in Spain in January just before the disaster but it was not the season for viewing roses.

Saludos.
