Ms. Weber: I am looking for an Austin dark pink that holds its color and is very fragrant. Noble Anthony is a possibility. One drawback would seem to be a great unpredictability of color as seen in the various photos on HMF. Some (like Leander's) are very dark magenta, others (like Tony R's and Peter Miller's) are mid-pink. Your photo of NA (along with Ms. Woodbury's) appears to be in that 'golden mean' of dark-pink magenta.

My question to you is: have you ever seen your Noble Anthony(s) look very dark magenta or mid-pink?

Thanks. Mike, Michigan

Hello Mike,
unfortunately I have my Noble Anthony only since spring 2007, but it holds the color very well over the year and I haven't seen a difference between summer- and autumn-bloom as this often is the case with other roses. However, there could be greater annual variations I haven't observed yet. The height is about 90 cm. I think this is a fantastic rose!
All the best

Mike, there's also Falstaff, a dark pinky-red, highly fragrant David Austin ... perhaps a possibility.

Susanne: Thank you for thinking of me and for your suggestion of Falstaff. However, upon looking at the HMF photos of Falstaff, I see a couple of real reds, a magenta from you, and worse, some very ugly (to me) dark magenta-purples from Leander. The photo from Austin's own catalog is very red, not at all pink. On the other hand, a couple of HMF photos from Celeste and a couple from WVIrishRose do look nicely dark pink. Thus, I have to give Falstaff some consideration.

On another front I've been considering Wisley. The many HMF photos of this rose from Marina in Virginia seem to show it to be what I'm looking for. Your plant list indicates that you do not grow this rose. However, if you should happen to hear anything about it, I would appreciate a forwarding.

Thanks again, Mike

P.S. I know that Germany and Austria are big countries and that there are many thousands of Webers, but you aren't a descendant of Carl Maria, are you?

Mike, the Falstaff-suggestion didn't come from me - I would have thought it far too red for your purposes!
And no, as far as I know we are not related to Carl Maria - but I love the "Freischütz" :-)

Ms Weber: If I might trouble you with one more question about Noble Anthony: what height do you get for this rose? Thanks again. Mike, Michigan

Hello Susanne:

I would like to use your photo of of 'Superbe en Brun' for an article I'm writing for the American Rose Society's "OGR and Shrub Journal". Both you and HelpMeFind would receive photo credit for this, Please let me know as soon as possible if this is OK. Thanks very much.

Hallo Susanne, ich lebe in Frankreich - in Bretagne-  und bin sehr interessiert auf ihre Rosen. Könnte man Ableger austauschen ? Mein Garten heisst "Kerusten", vielleich  werden Sie hier einige Rosen finden.
