Apeles Mestres (Climbing Pernetiana) is a climbing rose with great globular sunflower-yellow flowers on strong-growing canes, with glossy deep green foliage. It must, however, be grown in a position where it gets a maximum of sunlight. Here it will give back a proportion of the sunlight it takes. Dot 1926....Prune as lightly as possible...June-September.

Aribau (H.T.) is a fine rose with long buds singly borne upon strong, erect stems above reddish-green foliage. Little or no disbudding is required for exhibition purposes, as the fiery-red brilliant flowers are produced before the laterals. Dot 1937....Moderate growth. Fragrant...June-September. Hardy.

ARNDT (polyantha) bears its pale flesh-pink flowers in large corymbs upon a tree which is a half climber. The foliage is a good dark green, the growth is vigoous, and the flowering season long.

Aspirant Marcel Rouyer (H.T.) bears its large, pointed, fully double flowers singly on strong stems with much glossy, bronzy foliage. The flowers are apricot, deepening to reddish-orange at the centre, with the exterior flesh colour, shaded and veined with yellow. Pernet-Ducher, 1919. Deciduous. Vigorous Growth. Moderately Fragrant GPA (pruning instructions) Bedding. June-September. Hardy.

'Auguste Gervaise' (wichuraiana rambler) bears clusters of very large semi-double flowers, shading from cream to salmon-pink and orange-yellow. In growth it is strong, and is most profuse in flowering; it should be pruned to leave the best of the old shoots. Barbier 1918. Deciduous, Climber, Without scent. Purpose - climber, pergola, Pillar. AUGUSTE KORDES (Climbing polyantha) produces clusters of fiery scarlet semi-double flowers on almost thornless stems clad with shiny green disease-resistant foliage. Pruning should consist of the removal of the dead wood and elimination of crowded shoots.

'Aviateur Blériot' (wichuraiana rambler) has bright glossy foliage and bears its light-orange flowers in clusters.
