Summer 2024. Mel's Heritage, year 2 against fence in heavy, wet clay (but almost BS free) and in a little shade. This is its first flush, which is generous, and then it gives very minor scattered bloom over the rest of the season, but I expect that to change as it gets older. This rose LOVES this spot, grows like gangbusters here, canes are around 7 feet here? It's also been very strictly pruned and had lots of outward facing canes chopped off in order to tie it cleanly to the fence. It doesn't care. It wants to grow BIG. This rose gets dieback at tips only and on damaged canes (last year I let it overgrow into my neighbor's yard and had to yank canes back through the fence. The once that got too damaged bloomed over the summer but died in winter. The rest stayed 6-7 feet long. This is still a baby plant as far as ramblers go. Bought as a band in early 2022, grew in a gallon sized pot until fall 2022 when I heeled it in for the winter and threw leaves on it. Threw it in the ground the next spring and it just took off. This rose isn't supposed to grow in my zone, but it clearly doesn't know that.
